You asked your AI to write something in your voice.
It came back sounding like one of those corny transformational posts on Linkedin
You've felt it. That moment where you read the output and think
Nobody who knows me would believe I wrote this. It's technically fine. It's complete sentences.
It just sounds like beige. Like every other AI output from every other person who also typed "write this in my voice" and got the same result.
Here's the thing though, that's not the model failing you.
That's you handing the model nothing USEFUL and expecting it to guess.
Almost everyone builds AI the same way. One big assistant, and one paragraph of context dumped in.
Something like
You are a helpful assistant for my business, write in a conversational, on-brand tone.
Then they hit go, hate what comes back, and blame the technology.
Instructions are not the same thing as knowledge. That’s the problem.
Instructions tell AI how to behave ✖.
Context gives it actual proof to work from ✔.
And everyone jams both into one block of text and wonders why nothing sticks.
"Be conversational and on-brand" is an instruction.
It's also completely useless, because the AI has no idea what your conversational sounds like.
It's never met you. It's going to guess, and its guess is going to sound like everyone else's guess.
But five of your real captions pasted in? That's not just a description.
That's evidence, It can copy evidence. It cannot copy a vibe you just described.
One project, one job. That's it.
"Write my content" is not a project, It's a wish.
"Turn my rough voice notes into three reel scripts for business owners" that's a project.
One input, one output, one thing to be good at.
The five documents that actually make it sound like you.
A project brief ↬ one line on exactly what the job is, what goes in, what comes out.
A voice document ↬ how it sounds, and the hard rules it cannot break.
Real examples ↬ your five best actual pieces of work, pasted in full, not described.
A source of truth ↬ your real facts, offers, prices, and numbers in one place.
And a workflow ↬ the steps it runs every single time.
Of the five, the examples document is the one to build first. It doesn't matter what you call it or how you format it.
Paste in five things you've made that you're actually proud of and tell the AI this is the bar. Match this.
And write down what you don't want.
This is the section nobody writes and it's the reason AI drifts back into mush over time.
Mine looks like this:
No em dashes, ever. Never open with "in today's fast-paced world." Don't summarize, teach.
No overused buzzwords: leverage, unlock, supercharge. Don't pad to hit a word count. And lots more i don’t want to bore you with.
I run five businesses and it only works out because I build focused systems that already know my voice, my facts, and my standard.
