Anthropic launched Claude for Small Business.

And before you file it under "cool AI news that doesn't apply to me" hear this out.

This isn't a new chatbot. It's Claude sitting inside QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.

The tools you're already paying for and already running your business on.

It handles payroll planning, invoice chasing, month-end reconciliation, sales campaigns and contract routing. You approve before anything sends, posts or pays.

So your accountant, your sales rep, your marketing coordinator, and your admin. All in one subscription.

Here's why this is important beyond the product announcement.

Small businesses make up 44% of US GDP and employ nearly half the private sector workforce.

But large businesses were using AI at almost twice the rate of small firms just over a year ago.

That created a real competitive disadvantage for smaller operators who were trying to compete without the same leverage.

By August 2025 that ratio had already started closing fast…

The businesses on the right side of that curve right now are the ones who figured out which workflows to hand off first.

And yes, a lot of those businesses are your direct competition.

Anthropic also launched a free AI fluency course built with PayPal and a 10-city live workshop tour starting in Chicago this week, 100 small business owners per city, hands on, completely free.

The tools are being handed to you. The training is being handed to you. The only thing left is actually implementing it.

Here's how to actually get started with Claude for Small Business this week.

Step 1: In Claude, go to Cowork → Customize → Browse Plugins

Click “Browse plugins”

Look for the “Claude for Small Business” plugin and install it.

Add the Small Business plugin to Claude

Step 2:  Connect the tools you already use: QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365. Connect whatever you're already using. One at a time.

Step 3: You don't have to build anything from scratch. There are 15 ready to run workflows covering finance, operations, sales, marketing and customer service. Pick anyone that’s most useful to you.

Step 4: Claude won't send, post or pay without your sign-off.

Keep it on full manual review for the first few weeks so you know exactly what it's doing before you trust it to move faster.

Once it's installed, type /smb-onboard into the chat.

Claude immediately asks you about your business. Your industry, your team size, the tools you use.

It's not small talk, it's building a context profile so every workflow it runs actually understands how your business operates before it touches anything.

After that it walks you through connecting your tools. QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, whatever you use. You just click through and log in.

On the security side Anthropic doesn't train on your business data and Claude only has the same permissions you do.

So if a team member uses it, they can only see what they already have access to in QuickBooks or HubSpot.

Nothing moves without your approval. Claude does the prep work, drafts the emails, runs the numbers you click approve before anything actually happens.

Three things to do this week while this is still fresh:

One: Open whatever tool you use most QuickBooks, HubSpot, Google Workspace and check if the Claude for Small Business connector is available yet. Install it.

Run one workflow and see what it does with an actual invoice or a real lead before you form an opinion on it.

Two: Identify the task in your business that happens most repeatedly and costs the most time every single week.

Write down every step of it. That documentation is the foundation of your first AI workflow whether you use Claude or anything else.

Three: Stop learning AI in isolation. The people implementing this fastest aren't watching more tutorials. They're building with someone who's already done it.
